Understanding the types of bullying

Bullying manifests in many painful ways, both visible and hidden. By breaking down how harm happens—from physical attacks to deliberate exclusion— and together, we can recognize the warning signs and protect those who need our help.

Physical bullying and property destruction

Physical bullying involves direct aggression such as hitting, kicking, or pushing someone to the ground. It also extends to intentionally damaging personal belongings, stealing items, or tearing school materials. Growing up, I was pushed down and had my belongings ruined while others stood by and laughed, and nothing was done. Watch for warning signs like torn clothes, unexplained bruises, sudden lack of appetite, or declining grades.

Verbal cruelty and emotional rejection

Verbal abuse cuts deep, using insults, teasing, cruel nicknames, and relentless mocking to break down a person's self-worth. When paired with open rejection, it leaves lasting emotional scars. Victims often exhibit frequent crying spells, sudden yelling, withdrawal from conversations, or changes in sleeping and eating habits as they struggle to process the harsh environment around them.

Social exclusion and finding your voice

Social exclusion is a quiet, damaging form of bullying where someone is systematically isolated, ignored, or made to feel invisible in groups. It often leads to a drop in academic focus, severe loneliness, and loss of appetite. If you or someone you know is enduring this, remember you are not alone.
